On Monday night, a tornado touched down west of Fort Pierce, but no buildings were damaged
SCOTTSDALE COUNTY In a rural area of western St. Lucie County, a tornado touched down on Monday evening, but no structures were damaged as far as the National Weather Service is aware.
According to Kevin Rodriguez, a meteorologist for the weather service in Melbourne, the agency began receiving reports of it around 6:10 or 6:15pm.
Suddenly, there was a severe thunderstorm. There was a good chance for some severe storms to form today (Monday), according to Rodriguez. "The east coast seabreeze gave this one a little extra oomph, and that turned severe, and it produced a tornado."
According to him, the location was west of Fort Pierce, north of Florida's Turnpike, and west of Interstate 95.
It stayed on the ground for about 10 minutes, according to Rodriguez, who was on a road south of the Turnpike.
"It appears to have remained confined to rural areas," Rodriguez said. As of right now, we have no idea whether it crossed the Turnpike or not... because it dissipated, it is no longer there."
A few miles from Fort Pierce, he said the location was located west of the city, north of the Florida Turnpike, and west of Interstate 95.Approximately ten minutes later, Rodriguez, who was driving south of the Turnpike, reported seeing it again.
As Rodriguez noted, "it appears to have remained restricted to rural areas." At this point in time, we don't know if it crossed the Turnpike or not, as it has dissipated.
